Artist Statement
I am Bukelwa Ndakisa, first year student studying Fine Art at the Durban University of Technology.
The explorative character of the embossed print technique captured my interest. The technique  allowed for numerous possibilities to interpret the portrait. I enjoyed the quick manner that the works could be produced. The process of the inverted image fascinated me.
One does not have to use ink or any staining medium to make the portrait. Instead one could manipulate the surface plain by applying pressure on a page and a  designed cardboard cut.   rWhich is then rolled through a press. The result had different depths on the paper, this formed a portrait. The portrait looks like nothing because it does not have colour, yet it is there because the surface is not the same as what it was before.
