In my works, I am interested in a nostalgic look into my childhood. I am not sure why I am so drawn to my childhood but the process of art-making serves as a search for answers to that question.

My work explores perception. According to the dictionary, it is how people gather sensory information and assigning meaning to it.

Impaired Perception- (cartoonification/abstraction) by Damiyo

these are character breakdowns where I explore what makes a person look the way they do

My concept is about my perception of reality. How I perceive the world around me as a visually impaired individual. I aimed to take focus in the exploration of the many different and interesting ways that my realities are distorted through my eye and to reinterpret them in a more artistic and visual manner that would allow others to experience the world through my perspective/perception that often gets somewhat confusing and unclear at times. looking down at what seems to be a 10cent coin. But only to realize it to actually be a drop of coffee once you get closer enough while attempting to collect it from the ground. Or of how almost each and every human figure at a distance seems to be a slightly varying replica of each other (look the same). However, there are some exception of forms I’ve familiarized myself with, figures of familiar angles and bends that I am able to recognize to a degree yet in most cases once I get closer it turns out not to be what I thought it to be. Which is the reason I decided to leave people’s identity ambiguous until I am close enough to confirm.

YOU CANT READ THIS BECAUSE YOU CAN SEE.

Egyptian style book written in braille. that mainly only blind people read

This is a book I made with paper Mache and wood glue. I initially intended for it to be my submission to the blind alphabet exhibition competition, but due to it not being ready on time because of the amount of time required for it to harden and completely dry. I ended up working further on it as part of my fine art sculpture module for this semester as it links really well with the concept that I am working with. I am using braille as the written language of this book

In this artwork I've portrayed a lady vendor who sells fruits and vegetables to survive. I'm trying to show how unemployment is a big societal issue. It features in my concept because my main theme deals with the analysis of acts that lead to corruption.

My concept deals with analyzing acts of corruption. It seeks to distinguish between abusing the privilege  of  being an adult (which leads to corruption) and earning respect.

I am going to dwell much on the unpopular places, the ones least expected to be bearers of corruption. Sometimes the acts I will be portraying are not considered 'corruption' because of the times they have been repeated openly. Although differing from culture to culture, the expectation is that adults receive the highest level of respect, following a hierarchy system. This is the reason why I think most adults get away with almost everything bad they do in from of a younger person.

It seems society has accepted most forms of corruption because they have been continuously practiced for the longest of time. They have become a norm. Simultaneously, I am going to compare ethical and unethical behavior and show how they can both lead to corruption.

Wax Canddles by Fezeka Zeka

This is the back view of the experimenting I did for Drawing module

My work deals with the perception of  the Deaf community is viewed by hearing other. My focus is on the issue of how these others communicate their ideas of what they believe people with deaf/impaired hearing feel on a daily basis. There are stereotypes that suggest an absence of freedom, or the idea of one's tongue being tied up, Or perhaps that of a frog being stuck in one's throat that prevents them from speaking. I will be using metaphors primarily, As an expression of what some people think deaf people are, and of how I am caught between the so-called normal society (hearing) and the Deaf world. I do realize that I am  accepted in both worlds. shifting from one paradigm to another. alternating between ways of thinking within the deaf and non deaf  society. and my current focus has shifted to expressing my feelings about existing at the heart of it ( In-between these two worlds).

Pegs digital painting by Slindile Sithole

Artist: Slindile Sithole, Title: Pegs, Medium: Digital painting, Size: 2,560x1,600px, Year: 2020

My artwork is based on depicting the house chores and my thoughts for chores. Such as laundry concerning how I have been domesticated. I decided to use an exterior subject matter , as I hade to engage myself outside of the households most of the time. What I want to be the focal point of the composition is pegs, as they become the metaphor . The depiction of pegs brings the idea of associating with women , as they mostly known to use for laundry.

Painting by Slindile Sithole

Artist: Slindile Sithole, Tittle: Untitled, Medium: Acrylic paint on brown paper, Size: 24,5cm x 19,2 cm, Year: 2020

The composition is about depicting a woman's feeling through being domesticated. The woman is situated  alone in the kitchen, that where she mostly spend her time. The placement of the woman in the centre makes her to become the focal point, as her face is  invisible, it due to not being happy about always situated in the kitchen. Through hiding her face it because she has no say to what is happening , so it better if her face is invisible.

A Pencil and Fine Liner by Londeka

This is a quick sketch that I had done a few months back. I liked the composition of the two objects, and I decided to include them in my list of life drawings.

Bab'Khanyile by Nhlakanipho Goba

Mr Khanyile waiting for one of his family members so he can help with caring groceries.

My work serves as an appreciation post, the nostalgia of where I come from my childhood the space, landscapes and the people. Not to solve or speak about any society problems but to appreciate and show love to all that has groomed and inspired me to be what am today.
